WHY AM I STUDYING PUBLIC MANAGEMENT?
Every time people were asking me about what I
wanted to be when I grew up I just responded “a Doctor”. I really don’t know
why I was answering that, but I think because of my parents and their
influence.
After finishing high school I did voluntary
work in Colombia. I was in 3 different cities (Bogotá, Bucaramanga and Cúcuta).
While working as a volunteer my vocation as Human Right’s defender started.
That’s why I had some options, like becoming a lawyer, a politic scientist or an
anthropologist. But when I arrived in Chile I find out Public Management and I fell
in love with it, because I will be able to work with many people in different
areas, like NGOs, social departments, and the most important aspect, I will be
able to apply this knowledge in a practical way.
At this moment, I feel comfortable studying and
getting ready to become a Public Management, especially because the environment
that Universidad de Chile’s students provides. Sometimes I feel stressed out, but then I start to remember why am I studying this or what is my purpose.
In the future, I would like to do a master’s
degree in Human Rights and work in the UN. Who knows? Maybe I will be the High Commissioner of the United Nations for Human Rights *laughs*.
What about you guys? What about your expectations?
Joaquin, interesting the work in UN. Good luck.
